Photographer Research- Eugene Atget

Eugene Atget was a french photographer who photographed the streets of Paris in the early 20th century. He used a simple 18x24cm view camera, with almost non of the present day adjustments. He had no wide angle lens, people still don't no the focal length of the lens he used but think it must have been between 11 and 12 inches, he used glass plates. His images of streets in the city are usually very quite and peaceful mostly with no people in the image at all. All of his images are historic showing what certain areas looked liked, and now we compare them to what those places look like now and how they've changed.

These are a few of Eugene Atget's most famous images of Paris and most recognisable.

Someone who re-photographed these same places is Andrew Cross. Showing more recent pictures of what Eugene Atget took of Paris.

On the left it Eugene Atget's photographs and on the left is Andrew Cross's images, these show the differences between the same place and how its changed over time.
